Welcome to my website.
Here are a few of my latest paintings which are all 30 x 60 inches:

We are preparing for the second annual "Surface Explorations Art Retreat" at Camp Arnes, May 27-31, 2012. Twenty participants will work hard from morning until night exploring the challenging world of acrylics. The retreat is presently full with several people on the waiting list but you can forward your name for the 2013 retreat which will be at the end of May 2013.
A more luxurious option would be to join us at River Rock Studio in Cochrane Alberta for one of the two week workshops offered at the end of July 2012. I have included that information on the workshop page. Or, you can go to www.riverrockstudio.com and see all the workshops offered at this wonderful facility.
I continue to enjoy being part of a wonderful group of artists displaying their work at Pulse Gallery, operated by Judy Reardon Smith and Lesly Dawyduk at Johnston Terminal at the Forks. The space is intimate, well designed, and full of beautiful work by Manitoba artists.Judy and Lesly are delightful and welcoming. Each artist's work on display is changed monthly or sooner, so it is always worth a trip. You can't go wrong at the Forks: art, food, shopping, meeting people, and just celebrating what Winnipeg has to offer.
Please do e-mail to be part of my e-mail list if you are interested in future endeavours and workshops. As soon as I put together a workshop schedule in 2013, I will distribute it.
The pictures shown below from the show are actually 30 x 60 inches large. In all there are fourteen different paintings this size.

Thirty five years of experiencing all aspects of the arts through teaching and performance has resulted in my finally settling into my own groove as an experimental mixed media artist.
Art for me is about relationships. In some strange way, the people in my life, whom I value above everything else, are living works of art. Together, we work to find a balance as we experience life; analyzing, interpreting, and sorting through the various life events that confront us. It’s all about problem solving. And that is exactly what my painting is---experience and problem solving in space. Layers of texture, paint, and embedded objects are manipulated below and on the surface to create images that evolve as elements of design and composition creating architecture in paint, communicating my feelings. It’s really very simple. I react to my art surfaces the same way I interact with the people in my life. |

Compositional problem solving and working through life are very similar. Things get messy in both cases. So, you take a good look…..best done with your mouth shut. Then you find some structure, patterns--some strength. Enhance what is useful and good, eliminate what is unnecessary, and work with what you have to add as a way of solving the problem. Finding or developing a focal point is always useful. And if the result is something a bit eccentric, excessive, glitzy and over the top---bravo! |
